PASTOR SHEARLINE MELVIN
Pastor Shearline Melvin leads True Vine Baptist Church in Newport News alongside her husband, Senior Pastor, Rev. Dr. Irvin D. Melvin. God has directed her ministry to mentoring young women, teaching and encouraging them to seek God for strength and guidance as they deal with daily life issues.
Pastor Shearline, as she is affectionately known at True Vine Baptist Church, answered God’s call to the gospel ministry in 1998, received her ministerial license in 2000 and was ordained in 2004. A lifelong learner, she received an Associate Degree in Biblical Studies from the Friendship Institute of Theology and has earned credits toward a bachelor’s degree from the former Thomas Nelson Community College (now Virginia Peninsula Community College) in Hampton, VA and William and Mary University in Williamsburg, VA. She has also served as a featured columnist on topics of religion for the Daily Press newspaper in Newport News that inspired readers to give their lives to Christ.
In addition to her pastoral duties at True Vine, she also serves as the President of the Women of Excellence women’s ministry and a member of the True Vine Choir.
Pastor Shearline loves God, His people and works faithfully with a servant’s heart in her calling, always striving to be better in her efforts to please and be closer to God, the Father.
Her scriptural foundation for ministry is Galatians 6:9, “Let us not be weary in well doing for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
